Year 5

Autumn Term in Year 5

The children have settled into year 5 very well and are showing a positive attitude to their learning. They are excited and enthusiastic to be learning about Ancient Greece and have already started listening to mythical stories.

All children have been given a reading book and a new reading record. Children are expected to read 5 times a week to an adult and we ask that the adult sign the record to show that reading has been carried out. Ten entries in the reading record will result in a merit being awarded. Discussion around the text is also very important as it allows children to show their understanding of what they have read. Please catch a member of year 5 if you would like to discuss this further.

In Science, the children will be studying ‘Out of this World’ which will allow them to study the Earth, Sun and Moon. A trip to the Centre for Life has been planned to visit the Planetarium. The second topic is ‘Material World’.

The children are very happy to be learning German this term and will all be taught by Mrs Muncaster. Please ask your child to share with you new vocabulary they have learnt.

In English and Mathematics, the children will be working hard to achieve their personal targets this term and again we would like the children to share these with you.

Homework will be given out each Friday and this needs to be handed in no later than Tuesday morning. Reading records must be handed in each Monday morning.

A reminder that children need a plain tracksuit, bottom/shorts and a plain T shirt for PE.

We look forward to sharing the exciting term ahead with you and the children.
